CD/DVD drive is not detectable

If the CD drive is not listed from "My Computer", pls click this link first before doing the below steps.
There is a CD that can upgrade your current operating system to a new OS, aside from the usual genuine Windows CD that would cost more than the upgrade version. Unfortunately, there are times that when you upgrade it, suddenly the CD/DVD drive is not recognizable anymore. Going into registry of the computer is very critical coz 1 data entry change will make the computer non-working. Carefully follow the steps below.

I. DELETING UPPER FILTER
1. Click Start, type regedit at Run
2. In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
3. Expand SYSTEM, then CurrentControlSet
4. Expand Control, then Class
5. Click 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318
6. On the right, click UpperFilters
7. On the Edit Menu, click Delete

II. DELETING LOWER FILTER
1. Perform Steps 1-5 above
6. On the right pane, click LowerFilters
7. On the Edit Menu, click Delete

Exit Registry and restart the computer. This is mandatory for values to take effect.

NOKIA808 41MP IS HERE?

I was once an avid Nokia fan because of it's user-friendly interface. Sad to say that it's now being used mostly by our grannies and pops coz it is easier to navigate and is a no brainer cp. While smart phones are arguably smart (can't wait to get a hand on Samsung S3, the fastest phone so far), this Nokia 808 Pure View is rocking the camera phone world with its astounding 41MP feature, the Guinness book of record holder, to say the least.
Thanks to gsmarena.com
Well, what do you need the 41MP for when it is backed up by an aging Symbian OS, oh it's a new version of symbian: Nokia Belle. Alright, why does Nokia advertises new OS on new design on new phone, like Windows Phone and upgrading the Symbian OS in succession of what months, quarterly maybe? against most phones clinging into Android? Why don't Nokia join the bandwagon of creating new phones with android and if they want to segway into Windows phone at least the phone is as cool as the new arrivals too. Wouldn't be a good competition? People used to love Nokia because of its innovation, now other brands are replacing it coz of better OS:android.

Jelly Bean is the latest of Android OS and it will be a lot cooler if this 41MP will be used on that OS, rather than staying in archaic Symbian. Just a thought, maybe.

CANNOT UNINSTALL TREND MICRO TITANIUM MAXIMUM SECURITY

This happened to me when I'm configuring a new machine, Sony Vaio in Win7 32 bit OS, with pre-installed Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security. Windows update is done, computer is running well but for some reasons, Trend Micro cant be removed so that installation of preferred antivirus can be done.
Steps:
A1. Go to Start type add or remove programs and click on it
A2. Highlight Trend Micro, click on Uninstall
On this process, it hangs to 0%.

Try the next steps:
B1. Go to Start\All programs\TrendMicro\look for Toolkit
B2. Run it and uninstall
Restart pc and it's gone!
What if you after A2 you cant see the Trend Micro on Start up items anymore?
C1. Go to My Computer
C2. Browse to C: drive\Program Files\Trend Micro\tool or toolkit
C3. Run the application and wallah!
Restart the pc and it's gone!

There are some applications over the net that will surely uninstall the antivirus, but along the process, it asks for me to purchase the uninstall software or to register the software itself, to my dismay, I have to look for another alternative.

How to Uninstall Norton 7,8,9,10 but you need to type the password?

I had this client that when I'm uninstalling the Norton software from the pc, it is asking me to type the password that I don't know. Checking the net, (thanks to you...) this password is usually from a network drive / server (if the computer is part of an organization in an office setting). Getting into the registry will definitely uninstall the Norton after changing the value of "UseVPUninstallPassword" from 1 to zero. Here is the step:
1. Go to Start, Run, type regedit
2. Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
3. Next on SOFTWARE
4. Go to INTEL
5. Then on LANDesk
6. Followed by VirusProtect6
7. Click on CurrentVersion8. Then on AdministratorOnly
9. Highlight Security then on the right side look for the item UseVPUninstallPassword.
10. Double click then change the value from 1 to 0.
11. Apply then restart the computer.
12. Go back to Add/remove programs, then uninstall Norton. It won't ask for passwords anymore.
My problem was I didn't notice that below UseVPUninstallPassword, there is similar in text that reads like VPUinstallPassword. That's what I changed the value of 0 from a very long number, though it didn't affect the uninstallation of Norton after figuring out I made a mistake!

How to remove Etisalat's "registration" application in blackberry?

The software that you can download from an SMS sent by Etisalat is named "Registration". The software tends to provide upgrades and to improve performance of the phone, as what was described by the biggest telecomms provider in the UAE. Unfortunately, this is not a RIM-authorized service, and so they (RIM) created this solution so that the software will be removed from your blackberry so that your phones will not send out messages into the server without you knowing it. RIM's solutions to blackberry phones are not sent out through messages but rather can be downloaded from blackberry site, FYI. Further FYI, RIM is a company that provides sky-rocketing solutions for wireless mobility applications and the like.
1. Using your blackberry phones, go to http://blackberry.com/registrationappremover and install the software.
2. Using your computer, install the registration app remover.
3. Follow on screen instructions.

Using hotspot shield and skype

In Dubai, UAE, Skype is blocked. The reason is while Skype is giving its services to the mass for free, telecommunication companies look at the Skype's services as a threat to their business, financially. How to combat this?
First, hotspot shield is a software like YM of yahoo, that you can call to either 1. a computer that has skype installed and 2. to a phone of any location. The term skype-to-skype is used when communicating using a computer, and skype-to-phone when a computer tries to communicate to a phone. There is also phones like Blackberry that you can install Skype with and call other Blackberry phones to communicate with, cool huh as long as the other party has Skype in it too!
As I've said, in UAE, lots of site are being blocked, especially not-so-childly-like sites, including the hotspot shield. Hotspot shield is needed when you install Skype into your computer but can't do skype-to-phone or skype-to-skype.
To install hotspot shield, you need to use another proxy server, like ultra surf. After the installation of hotspot shield, connect it to net before using your Skype. Your skype must have credit so you can do both.
PROBLEMS:
1. If for some reasons, after downloading the software hotspot shield but its not running, go to system configuration utility window, go to services tab, hide all microsoft services then disable everything. In Startup tab, disable everything too. Restart the computer, then run the installer of hotspotshield again.

Checklist for Virus/Spyware Removal

Here are the top to notch lists if your computer is seen with virus or spyware.

1. Back up the system on a separate storage device (an external harddrive will do)
2. With the infected PC, start into Safe mode with Networking, as some viruses can only be removed in safe mode. To perform this, restart pc and wait until the manufacturer's logo is displayed, then press F8 continuously until Advanced Boot Options window will come out.
3. Turn off System Restore by going to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.
4. Go to Add/Remove Programs from Control Panel to uninstall any unwanted/unverified software and other applications that you think is suspected.
5. Install a licensed antivirus software, run then update it on the suspected pc.
6. Install Spybot search and destroy or Superantispyware into the infected pc, run then update. You can use softwares like Spysweeper from Webroot Software, Microsoft Anti-spyware, eTrustPest Control, or Ad-aware from Lavasoft. Make sure to run and update them on the infected system.
7. Make sure you are connected to net while performing these steps. If you cannot go to internet, run LSPfix (a free utility from cexx.org) to repair Winsock 2 settings. Perform another using your licensed software.
8. Turn on system restore.
9. Download all critical or windows update.
10. Disable unnecessary startup items from Start > Run > type msconfig > Startup tab > then uncheck the items that needs no running everytime the pc starts. All items that doesn't start with C:\windows or C:\ProgramFiles or the licensed antivirus, uncheck them. Unchecking them somehow will make the computer faster in booting up.
11. Run disk clean up and diskdefrag from Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools
12. Back up the system again and destroy the previous backup since the first system backup is infected with virus.

Vipre Antivirus plus Antispyware rolled in one!

I was so excited about telling you this new Antivirus Software that I was browsing over the internet. For the greatest part, you can download this both antivirus and antispyware-in-1 for a trial period of 15 days! It is up-to-date, user-friendly and easy to understand especially its graphical interface. I’ve used Nor*&n and Mc@$^&e with license and not (means free) but for some reasons, I am not contented with the results these two software is giving me. That’s why I kept on looking and trying for new software to kill viruses, spywares, malwares, worm and whatsoever bugz from my pc and found out that this is a hit for me. Try it yourself so you know what I’m talking about. We always wanted to get the freshest and the latest of news, information and technology, aren’t we, so don’t be left out! There’s no harm in trying. At the end of the day, it’s up to you to keep it or throw it away; at least you have a clearer conscience that you tried it for some reasons. Yeah right, to my astonishment I forget to mention the name of the software: VIPRE AV+AS! Peace out.

HOW TO ADD VIDEO DOWNLOADER IN FIREFOX

The operating system of my computer is XP Home, and I’m using Mozilla Firefox for browsing the internet. Someone told me to download the latest flash player so that once I go to http://youtube.com, I can download the videos from there. Something like a shot-out will come out once you move the mouse over the video and lets you download it. They even further instructed me to download the video category of flash player and not the audio . And so I did but to no success. I tried another alternative and it just worked:

Go to Mozilla toolbar. Click on Tools, then click on "Add-Ons," then "Get Add-ons". Type this into the search bar, “video downloadhelper”. Downloadhelper is one word, no spaces in between. Then install this software into your computer. The default setting for this add-on is only for video download. If you want to use this for picture download, check the internal settings of your add-on. Am trying other sites aside from youtube if this add-on is ok: and it works just fine.

You can install a converter from this add-on also if you want to download the video then convert it automatically to an extension file that you wanted to use. It's so easy like counting 123...

WHAT’S IN STORE FOR INTERNET EXPLORER 8?

My Acer Aspire 4310 (a very old laptop) went through a lot of operating system reinstallation. My co-worker even noticed that I’m doing a lot of work (meaning a lot of opened application / window at the same time) using Intel Celeron proc (multitasking) but the speed is still ok. This might be a scenario where not all Celeron proc fails when a lot of windows are opened at the same time. I said, I could be a reason (the user) why the laptop is not hanging or something (hahaha). With windows XP, it’s perfect, with windows Vista, though, it lags for a second or two. Anyway, I just recently installed IE8 for my newly installed XP Pro SP3. So what’s new about IE8?

I don’t know if these features are included with IE7, but let me tell you anyways. 1. You can turn on/off your “SUGGESTED SITES” or mostly visited sites. 2. SmartScreen Filter is strengthening for your protection against malicious software, fraudulent websites and online phising scams. 3. InPrivate browsing that it will not leave any traces of your internet activity, so no histories. 4. Accelerator lets you map directions, translate words, email your friends, etc with a simple clicks; and 5. Search Suggestion, to which it will display possible search keywords.

Portable Applications

Yeah, the capabilities of a USB flash drive or the external hard drive in backing up your files are now extendable to even running your software from it. Unbelievable? It’s for you to find out.

I got interested in checking the capabilities of a hard drive when one of my customers came to me and ask if such thing is possible. Back then I have no idea if software will run from a host computer without installing the software from the hard drive. I told the customer that the installer is ok to be stored in the external hard drive but you must run it on the host computer, then uninstall when you’ll not use it anymore. That time I didn’t know that you can use the flash drive for both storing the installer and running the software not from the host computer but on the flash drive itself, and leaving no evidence that you used the software once you remove the flash drive from the computer. That would be amazing! Carrying software applications to one computer to another, leaving no traces behind.

Checking further, there is bundled application that you can download from the internet then run on your flash drive. Most commonly are Mozilla (an internet browser), open Office (just like MS Office), calendar, email, antivirus, etc. These are called portable applications. I just wish autocad can do that.
