Setting Blackberry "Desktop" contacts for display

Scenario: You connected the Blackberry phone to Outlook to transfer the contacts from BB to Outlook. On the phone, there are 250 contacts. But what is showing before synching is only 50. Where are the 200 staying from?

1. Check the BB phone if it has more than 1 email configured.
2. Next is to check the contacts from which it is displaying from, just verify if the contacts that are being displayed are coming from SIM, email1, email 2, or Desktop accounts, so you can identify the quantity of contacts and target each source differently.

From the scenario above, I have confirmed that the 50 contacts are coming from Gmail account, the other 200 contacts are from "Desktop" that I don't know what it is.
Anyway, I was able to figure out the solution to extract all 250 contacts from BB to Outlook. Pls follow the steps below:

1. Click Options
2. Device
3. Advanced System Settings
4. Default Services
5. Select Contact List (SYNC)
6. Select Desktop instead of the current selected, a Gmail account.
7. Save.
8. Now you're ready to sync it to Outlook.

Do the process of synching the BB to Outlook from this link.
Get the first 200 contacts, then go back to the default Gmail contacts and sync again into Outlook, by adding into the current Outlook contacts. You will be having the 250 contacts afterwards.

How to transfer contacts and BBM contacts into Z10

RIM provides username and password to:
1. Download apps into your BB phone
2. Save your BBM contacts
3. other perks for using BB

Transferring the contacts from old BB to new Z10 is a piece of cake. Before Z10, all BB are using Blackberry Desktop Manager to transfer data from one BB to another. With Z10, you have to use a new software called Blackberry Link. Open it.
It is recommended to connect the old BB and the Z10 at the same time in doing the transfer.
1. There is called "Data Transfer" on the BB Link , click this and follow the prompt on the screen.
2. Select the items that you would like to copy from old BB like contacts, calendar, sms, etc. Tick the boxes.
3. Then click on Transfer at the bottom right.
4. Be patient in using the software since it would take time to transfer the items, specially if you have loads of information from old phone, like 5 minutes or more.
For BBM contacts, use the username and password that you used in your old BB and sign into Z10 using the same. If you don't remember your BB userid and pwd, retrieve them using a link "Forgot password" and retrive the information using the email that you used in creating the BB userid.
If BBM contacts can't be transferred, use manual invites to contacts.

There is another way of transferring the data using BB Protect. It is a cloud service to where you can save your phone information on the cloud prior to transferring them to Z10. Use the old BB phone in downloading this from AppsWorld and save whatever you needed saving, then on Z10, download the same and recover whatever you have saved.

Yahoo Messenger on Blackberry

One of my friends asked me why does her downloaded yahoo messenger is not working with her blackberry? Asking questions like

1. Who is your service provider? Etisalat
2. Is your SIM in post paid or pre-paid? pre-paid
3. Does your service provider supports this software? she don't know.

So without any further adieu I called the service provider if they support YM on blackberry (dial 101 on your mobile and select appropriate buttons @ the voice prompt). Unfortunately, Etisalat of UAE don't support YM on blackberry, whether you're post or pre-paid service enabled. Google talk is supported though, yey!

How to activate BES using etisalat SIM

BES is a blackberry enterprise service. It is being offered also by Etisalat. For this case, our company has a host server from Intermedia, and one of my boss purchased a blackberry with Etisalat SIM and he wanted to check his emails right on his blackberry, even when he is out of the country (UAE). Things that I done were
1. To make sure that his SIM has enabled BES services from Etisalat. Our company wrote a letter to activate the service on that particular SIM plus roaming capabilities too.
2. Next was to wait until Etisalat activates the request.
3. Once activated, make sure that the right SIM is inserted (you cannot use another Etisalat SIM to activate the service on another SIM).
4. Go outside to make sure that you are getting VERY STRONG signal for your blackberry (GPRS/EDGE)
5. Click on BB icon
6. Options
7. Advanced Options
8. Enterprise Activation
9. type the email address and password for your blackberry enterprise service (the password will be different from your usual outlook email password)
10. Press BB icon
11. Select ACTIVATE
Wait until all the service is activated and complete, then that's it.

Error: uncaught exception: java.lang.illegalargumentexception

When clicking on MSN messenger on your blackberry phone and you have this as an error message, I have a solution for your sufferings.
1. To check the version of your blackberry, click on the blackberry icon on your phone, go to options then click on about. Take note of the numbers as this will give you the exact version.
2. Before you decide to perform steps like removing everythin in it, backup your files first. Make sure that the Download Manager is running and up to date in your computer. Connect your BB phone. If you were asked to type the password, use the password on your BB phone to proceed. Go to your desktop manager, select "backup and restore", then click on backup.
3. To update your software, click on "application loader", then update software, then start.
4. Along the process, you will see items that needs to be uncheck and checked, these items can be seen here. There is a bit difference in updating the software versus reinstallation of OS.
5. After the installation of your new software is done, go to backup and restore once more then select restore, to restore whatever you have backed up.

How to remove Etisalat's "registration" application in blackberry?

The software that you can download from an SMS sent by Etisalat is named "Registration". The software tends to provide upgrades and to improve performance of the phone, as what was described by the biggest telecomms provider in the UAE. Unfortunately, this is not a RIM-authorized service, and so they (RIM) created this solution so that the software will be removed from your blackberry so that your phones will not send out messages into the server without you knowing it. RIM's solutions to blackberry phones are not sent out through messages but rather can be downloaded from blackberry site, FYI. Further FYI, RIM is a company that provides sky-rocketing solutions for wireless mobility applications and the like.
1. Using your blackberry phones, go to http://blackberry.com/registrationappremover and install the software.
2. Using your computer, install the registration app remover.
3. Follow on screen instructions.
