CD/DVD drive is not detectable

If the CD drive is not listed from "My Computer", pls click this link first before doing the below steps.
There is a CD that can upgrade your current operating system to a new OS, aside from the usual genuine Windows CD that would cost more than the upgrade version. Unfortunately, there are times that when you upgrade it, suddenly the CD/DVD drive is not recognizable anymore. Going into registry of the computer is very critical coz 1 data entry change will make the computer non-working. Carefully follow the steps below.

I. DELETING UPPER FILTER
1. Click Start, type regedit at Run
2. In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
3. Expand SYSTEM, then CurrentControlSet
4. Expand Control, then Class
5. Click 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318
6. On the right, click UpperFilters
7. On the Edit Menu, click Delete

II. DELETING LOWER FILTER
1. Perform Steps 1-5 above
6. On the right pane, click LowerFilters
7. On the Edit Menu, click Delete

Exit Registry and restart the computer. This is mandatory for values to take effect.

CD-ROM is not showing on My Computer

For operating systems like Windows XP or Vista, you might wonder one day that your cd-rom drive is listed on "my computer" window when you are trying to play some music or dvd movies. Don't panic because this is a simple problem.
1. Check in safe mode if the drive is listed by pressing the F8 button when the computer is restarting or booting up.
2. If it's not there, restart the pc and press F2 when the pc is booting up (just like when you press F8), you will see a blue screen that reads "system set-up". Look for the cd-drive if it's listed and enabled. There is a problem with windows if the cd-rom is enabled in BIOS. Go to step 5. This means that there are no problem with the cd-drive but the
3. If neither the windows and the BIOS cannot see the cd-drive, perform step 4.
4. Reseat the cd-rom drive. Whether your computer is a laptop or a dekstop, you have to remove the cd-rom drive and put it back again. Take note of the precautionary measures when opening the computer. Restart pc, the cd-rom should be there.
5. Check my post about cd-rom not burning, most specially on the portion to where you delete the upper fileters and lower filters in registry. Please do that. Restart the pc, then it should be ok.

If the CD-drive is still not shown, pls click this link. This step is an advanced step that you have to be very careful about.
